The CFA Model of Strategy
I have been doing some strategy work for myself the last month or two. This is something I do annually and something I’m doing due to the fact that I had a battle with Long COVID in March that almost did me in.
With my illness, I got to thinking about what I really wanted to do and what I really liked working on.
Then, I asked myself a question that was highly informative: “What if I had to start over?”
The answer I came back with was that if I were starting my business over again, I’d focus on strategy.
To go further, I’d look at strategy through the lens of five ideas:
- How is change created?
- How are opportunities created?
- How do you enter new markets?
- How do you revitalize a tired business?
- How do you make sure you are profitable?
If I went further, I’d get around to three things:
- Change
- Opportunity
- Profit
All of this led me to a question at the heart of most of my work: “What is strategy to me?”
That’s when I got to the idea of the CFA Framework because to me strategy is a process that drives your business forward by taking three actions:
